BRADY'S COACHING PHILOSOPHY

As a Life Coach, I assume that my clients are  well, not broken, and  therefore do not need to be fixed. There is no diagnosis by me. Coaching is not therapy.  I  assume  that each client is  resourceful and whole. Therefore, as  a Life Coach, I do not assess  your problems and then respond with my answers and solutions. .  I do sometimes gently guide and teach but Life Coaching is not a top-down model for helping people.  It is a collaboration.  Me and You.  The goal is  to facilitate desired  change -- changes you wish for yourself --  and to  discover the answers and solutions that exist within you or at the very least speak to you, rather than someone else's answers.  Notice the artwork below, entitled:  Surely, Fish Knows the Way!

"Nothing about her or the way she works is formulaic. As a client, I feel strongly that she is picking up on every detail and will not forget a thing. She takes each session as it comes and is willing and capable of making impromptu, unplanned decisions about direction and approach for my benefit. Every aspect of her coaching is in complete service of the client and I am sure that every one of her client's is guided in a unique and individual manner."

 THE COACHING MODEL IS PROVEN

Picture
Many of us  understand   why athletes, performers, and business executives have used coaches to hone their skills and create success.  The good news is that that  model—coaching for success—is being utilized more and more by people from all walks of life who find themselves wanting and needing change, and who want their lives to be better.   A Life Coach's role is to facilitate a person's own learning, discovery, growth and change. In short, a Life Coach empowers a person to find answers within that lead to greater success in the fullest living of life.

Picture
There is no one kind of person who hires a Life Coach. This partial list indicates the variety of life and work circumstances of people who have benefited:
  • Accountants, Actors, Attorneys

  • Parents
  • People in transition, People laid off or fired

HOW COACHING WORKS

Picture
In the Coaching partnership, it's the job of the Life Coach to create trust, listen, focus, raise the questions, introduce new practices, follow up, care, and respect.

There is chemistry between a Coach and a Coaching Client, so an effective Coach for one person may not be so for another. Meeting and/or speaking, and experiencing the style of the Coach is key to finding a good match. Feeling comfortable is the first step to developing the trust needed to do the work.

A typical Life Coaching  process for a private coaching client in my office  includes:
  • Free 30-minute consultation
  • Subsequent pre-scheduled  sessions  45-60   minutes in length
  • 1-2 sessions per month, or more if requested
  • New approaches and/or  ideas  to practice in between  sessions
  • Occasional brief check-in calls or emails, if needed
The frequency of sessions  depends on the person. Some clients come in 4 times and are done for that phase of their life. They may come back later for more or occasional check-ins.  At the same time, others choose a longer coaching relationship. Significant learning and practice and change  often takes time. Many people choose to work with a coach for 6-12 months. It is up to each individual client. I have some clients who came in often at the beginning and now come in every 4-6 weeks for check-ins.

COACHING IS LIKE GARDENING

Picture
Picture
Gardening is a useful metaphor for Coaching. We understand wanting our gardens to blossom at their fullest potential. We know the most bountiful outcomes are achieved when gardeners are attentive to all factors -- sun and shade, the right flowers and plants, soil condition, nutrients, water, weeding, overall care. This is Coaching, in my view.

Coaching encompasses all these facets of our life "garden."
With a Coach, you can expect to ”dig around” the multiple facets of yourself,  plant new seeds, pull  out some weeds, see what grows and blossoms.....thereby creating a more expansive "lifescape" and yield an optimal harvest.

There's a Hole in My Sidewalk - Autobiography in Five Short Chapters
                                                                                                                                                                                         By  Portia Nelson
Chapter One
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost.... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.
Chapter Two
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend that I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in this same place.
But, it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter Three
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in ... it's a habit ... but, my eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

Chapter Four

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

Chapter Five
I walk down another street.
